Bristol Renaissance Faire Weather Friends

As soon as the weather started to warm this spring, the children began to eagerly ask when we were going to go to Ren Faire.   They were disappointed to hear they had to wait all the way till July 11th, for the merry olde magic to begin again. It's become a favorite summer tradition, and this year was no exception. I'll include a Snapfish link for a more complete slide show of the day's excitement.

Although the jousting,

Mud show (The Sturdy Beggars Mud Show® - "The Greatest Show IN Earth" - Rush Pearson, John Goodrich, Peter Strunsky and Company - Mud Pit Stage),

 climbing wall

fencing shows (Dirk & Guido: The Swordsmen! - Bold and Stupid Men, At Your Service - Doug Mumaw and David Woolley - Cheshire Chase Action Stage and Midsummer Stage)

and medieval schtick remain the same from year to year, some things never grow old.

This year we did see new acts like the Lipizzaner horse demo

Adam the whip guy,
(Adam Crack, Whip Artist - Winner of four Guinness World Records for whip cracking - Adam Winrich - Lord Mayor's Forum area)

Doktor Kaboom!

and the straight jacket escaping juggler guy-Broon.

We've seen MooNiE for years, but never heard him speak till this year when we caught his end of the day extravaganza show.

We've always enjoyed MooNiE's show, but this was something else entirely.......(MooNiE the Magnif'Cent - Juggler, ropewalker and foolish mortal - Phil Johnson - Globe Stage)

He appeared on stage with Adam Crack and his whip, the insulting guy from vegetable justice who gets to head butt tomatoes for a living,

acrobats, Doktor Kaboom!, Broon, and the mud show men!

Adam even managed to whip a target out of MooNiE's mouth....between two layers of jugglers flinging clubs....while MooNiE balanced on an acrobat girl's pelvic bones.... as she held a bridge....

QUITE IMPRESSIVE!!!!

Went down great with those mile high chocolate crepes!

We managed to round up a hand full of our favorite people from The Chicago Hip Families Yahoo Group, to go with us this time, so it was an especially entertaining day.  The young set upon each other with swords and had a splendid time.

Doktor Kaboom even chose not one, but two, hip kids as stage assistants.   Trevor (lucky Gibson guitar winner boy from the Lollapalooza Saturday ChiIL Mama post) and our friend, the lovely Maeve, donated their skills to science and stole the show.

Du-Jay, the pacifist, surprised us all by chosing to spend his hard earned allowance on crossbow target practice.   And he did an excellent job nailing the target, for a first time shooter.

Sagezilla honed her circus skills again on the pirate catapult.   My crystal ball sees free tickets to the Ren Faire for performer's families in our future.........

We ended the day with a visit to The Swordsmen for our annual Dug and Doug shot.

There aren't that many Doug's out there, and even fewer with brown, curly hair, but Doug Mumaw, The Swordsman, said there are a disproportionate number of Dougs on the Ren Faire circuit.   So cheers to the sword fightin', role playin', costume wearin' Dougs......HUZZAH!

I thought it was amusing that the one family member who went completely minimalist with black Ren Fair Tee and no costume to speak of... ended the day wearing 3 sets of feathered wings, a dragon head, a wooden sword and shield and a crown of multicolored paper flowers!

The faire closes after Labor Day weekend and with discount tickets available, it's the perfect time to go.   Closing weekend only, adults are just $15 and kids 12 and under are free with a print out coupon available on the web site.
