Riot Fest 2010--All The Great Punks Aren't Dead Yet
Riot Fest 2010 is less than a month away, and 3 day passes are still available. Love it or hate it, Riot Fest is one big, rockin' punk party with something for everyone. Sure, in the early years some of the acts had few of the original members or just didn't jam like they used to. So many stellar punk musicians rock hard and die young! But, over the last five years we've seen some great stuff at Riot Fest.
A number of bands have reunited and pulled off memorable sets. Chicago boys, Naked Raygun, were a favorite of ours, along with Angry Samoans and 7 Seconds. Punk bands and fans now gather from all over the country to rock together every October. And it's only getting bigger and better.
Riot Fest 2010 is the largest yet, including Bad Religion, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Circle Jerks, Articles of Faith, Snapcase, Less Than Jake, The Lawrence Arms, Bouncing Souls, High On Fire, Corrosion of Conformity, Anti-Flag, Riverboat Gamblers, Red Oktoberfest with Propagandhi, “Busted at Oz” Reunion, Cro-Mags, fun., Negative Approach, Smoking Popes, Bhopal Stiffs, The Meatmen, Agnostic Front, Off With Their Heads, Brendan Kelly, The Toasters, Roy Ellis a.k.a. Mr. Symarip, OFF! (Keith Morris’ new band), Righteous Fool and many more. The full line up and schedule is available HERE.
In 2005 Mike Petryshyn started Riot Fest; he created his dream festival, the one he would want to attend. With one eye on the legendary Chicago punk scene and the other on the bands that inspire them, he started building the festival, with an ambitious multiple show/venue format, despite his inexperience. He put special emphasis on reuniting influential punk and underground bands who hadn’t shared the stage in years and creating a continuum from the very beginning of the movement through its current state. He and his partner Sean McKeough have built Riot Fest into a nationally recognized brand in an extremely short time with each year topping the creative curating from the one previous.
If you have older children, this is a great chance to bring the next generation of punk kin to see some of your favorites from back in the day. Just be sure to check the age requirements for specific shows. It varies from venue to venue. For more information and tickets, check out Riot Fest.
