The New York Times says "DR. SEUSS meets YELLOW SUBMARINE!" and quite rightly so. Morgan Taylor, song writer and illustrator, celebrates the simple, surreal joys of befriending mustard slugs, punching cheese, and sharing corn with aphids.
Children naturally have a well developed appreciation for the absurd, but Taylor's whimsical yellow creation will have family members of all ages laughing at the absurdest lyrics and crazy creative illustrations. ChiIL Mama saw Gustafer Yellowgold at Schubas last year and it was a multimedia feast. Check out our photo filled feature HERE.
The live audience skewed young, with preschoolers leading the pack, and kids topping out around early elementary age. I must admit, though, my 9 year old son, Du-Jay, loves the Have You Never Been Yellow DVD. Morgan Taylor's quirky sense of humor shines through, and Gustafer and his friends pop off the page and lodge themselves firmly in your brain. The sheer silliness and originality of these characters and their antics makes them appealing to older kids and adults as well as young children.
According to Newton's law of motion, an object in motion tends to stay in motion. But parents know a child in motion will soon need to rest. When it's time to settle down and relax, Gustafer Yellowgold is the perfect DVD or CD to pop in. These songs celebrate the importance of having a cozy, secret hide out like The Bluebird Tree for some alone time. They celebrate slowing waaay down and taking the time to love pine cones with Pinecone Lovely, observe insects, appreciate seasons and Dream In Green.

Gustafer Yellowgold concerts are a unique blend of live music and moving image. The minimally animated illustrations are accompanied by illustrator/songwriter Morgan Taylor’s catchy and original story-songs for a truly different multimedia experience that is entrancing children, teens and adults alike.
Gustafer is a friendly creature who came to Earth from the sun and has an unusual magnetism for making friends with some of Earth's odder creatures. His best friend is Forrest Applecrumbie the flightless Pterodactyl. Gustafer and Forrest built a small cottage-style home on the edge of an uncharted wooded area in Minnesota. He has a pet Eel named Slim (short for Slimothy) and a pet Dragon named Asparagus who lives in his fireplace and loves corn on the cob. Gustafer's pals, the Mustard Slugs practice their math under the shrubbery.
Since his creation in 2005, Gustafer Yellowgold has become an international phenomenon, acclaimed by the New York Times, which said, “The show is a cross between ‘Yellow Submarine’ and Dr. Seuss.” Entertainment Weekly praised “…The most infectious original songs. It’s like tapping into some pleasure center in the brain- both adult and kid…absurdly appealing. Grade: A.” New York Magazine named Morgan Taylor “Best Kids’ Performer” in its 2008 Best of New York Awards.
