Laura Doherty, the pop sweetheart for kids, returns to Chicago to perform a full-band family Valentine’s concert at Schubas, 3159 N. Southport in Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 92013, at 11:00amTickets are $8, and free for kids ages two and under.

For the third time in as many years Doherty offers a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with all the sweethearts in your family, especially the little ones! “Traditionally, Valentine's Day focuses so much on couples and I wasn't seeing anything out there for parents and kids to celebrate the holiday together,” says Doherty,”so that's when I created my Family Valentine's Show. I'm so happy it turned out so well and it's now an annual event!”

It’s a rockin’ acoustic show with Doherty on guitar and vocals, Rob Newhouse (Elvis Brothers/Bad Examples) on lead guitar, and Andrew Wilkins from the Old Town School on stand-up bass, Michael Riendeau on drums, and former Sweet Hello bandmate Cat Tager on harmony vocals.

Most of the repertoire for the morning concert will be songs from Doherty’s most recent children’s music albums; the award-winning Shining Like A Star(2012) and Kids In The City (2009).

Laura is rated one of the top four children’s musicians in TimeOut Chicago, as well as being nominated for a Hipsqueak Award as one of “Chicago’s best independent kid’s acts.”

For over a decade she served as the director of the Old Town School of Folk Music’s early-childhood “Wiggleworms” program, co-producing the Wiggleworms Love You album. She also records songs for Disney’s ELL schools in conjunction with Ralph Covert (Ralph’s World/Bad Examples), who had previously produced her solo singer-songwriter record, Days Without Maps.
