I spent last Tuesday with a collective of other pro-bloggers, exploring the multiple facets of Jewel. They hosted a fun, fact filled, "Back to Routine" event so we could pass on tips, tasty quick recipes and health back to school info to you. I'd never been in the gorgeous, spacious Jewel on Kinzie and Desplaines in Chicago's Fulton Market District. It's one of their newer stores, built around two years ago, and it's quite impressive.
Jewel can't out cheap the big box stores, but they have reinvented themselves with a growing assortment of organic and healthy natural foods, at an affordable price point. They also run weekly rotating discounts for even better bargains. Jewel comes out in the lead when compared to most health food specialty stores, like the chain popularly known as "Whole Paycheck". They're also successfully experimenting with gourmet foods, a varied wine selection, and luxury amenities like an in store chef in 3 locations.
